Research Areas
The Department of Zoology at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, is dedicated to advancing knowledge through cutting-edge research that addresses Nigeria’s biodiversity, conservation, public health, and environmental challenges. Our faculty and students engage in impactful research across the following core areas:

Entomology & Parasitology
Vector biology, pest management, insect ecology, parasite biodiversity, host–parasite interactions, and public health.

Wildlife Ecology & Conservation
Biodiversity monitoring, protected area management, human–wildlife interactions, species conservation, field data collection, and georeferencing.

Molecular & Cellular Zoology
Genetics, genomics, molecular diagnostics, and cellular mechanisms in animal systems.

Population & Evolutionary Genetics
Population dynamics, evolutionary processes, genetic diversity, adaptation, and speciation.

Environmental Toxicology
Environmental contaminants, pollution impacts on aquatic and terrestrial ecosystems, bioindicators, and risk assessment.

Public Engagement
Outreach, citizen science, museum education, science communication, and community conservation awareness.
