Dr. Fatima Bello
Class of 2000, Department of Zoology, A.B.U. Zaria

Dr. Fatima Bello graduated with a B.Sc. in Zoology from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, in 2000. Today, she is a Senior Research Scientist at the Nigerian Conservation Foundation, where she leads community-based projects on savanna wildlife conservation. During her time at A.B.U., Dr. Bello served as Vice President of the Zoology Students’ Association and conducted undergraduate research on the ecology of small mammals in the Samaru area. She credits her field courses at the A.B.U. dam and the mentorship of Prof. M. L. Adamu for sparking her passion for wildlife biology.

In her words: “Zoology at A.B.U. taught me to ask questions and get my boots muddy. That mindset has shaped my entire career.”We are proud to celebrate Dr. Bello as this month’s Alumni Spotlight for her outstanding contributions to conservation science in Nigeria.
